Belly on?

My daughter has now had silver nitrate put on her belly on twice fron umbilical granuloma. all it did was irratate her belly on because the only thing i can clean it with now is warm water. alcohol she screams like crazy and i feel horrible. what can i do to keep it from getting infected. her nana said no neosporin because it will keep it moist she said it just needs to dry out and fall off. But what if it doesnt what are other treatments then silver nitrate and surgery? this makes me so nervous i really dont want her to get an infection, so how can i prevent one if i cant clean it with alcohol.
