How can I clean a fabric convertible top without harming the paint job on the car ?

The tan convertible top on my '01 Corvette has what looks like mildew colored smudges on it that won't come off with normal washing. What can I use to clean it and not harm the base coat/clear coat paint job ?? Thanks in advance for any help
